Connecticut Supervisors Office January 25^th 1796 Sir, Agreeably to the request in your letter of the 26 [undecipherable] my Account as Agent for the Department of War has been stated and will be found herewith enclosed for the whole term in which I have acted in that capacity up to the end of the year 1795. The Circular letter from the Secretary of the Treasury dated June 12^th 1794 informed me thus "In cases, you shall have been required to perform services not relative to the Revenues under your Supervision, and which involve a disbursement of Money, you will be allowed one per cent on the sums disbursed for such services. This regulation to commence with the instructions respecting the recruiting service, namely from 26^th of November 1792." By recurring to the letter of the Secretary of the Treasury of the last mentioned date I find that the instructions therein relate wholly to the business of Contracting & paying for Rations &c in this district. Then it is that [undecipherable] in the enclosed account I have charged a Commission of one per cent, not only on the monies received from the Treasurer & paid to Military Officers but also on all monies, which I have have paid to such Contractors. Having Charged one per cent in my account as Supervisor, for my services as Agent the I Shall [strikethrough: treat] the error as an over[undecipherable] — to be paid accounts on the receipt of compensation which shall be allowed to me by the War department. If the payment of the amount of such compensation [undecipherable] as well be effected by procuring me a credit for such amount in the books of the Treasurer [undecipherable] my account as Supervisor of the Revenue, it will be as agreeable to me as to recieve the cash or Bank notes. I have monies on hand as Supervisor. In the enclosed account the dates of payments by me made are entered in conformity to the dates of the respective Vouchers, which in some instances were executed after the time in which the sums were first charged in the books of this office, which charges were made on the de[undecipherable] of the dates of my letters enclosing monies to Officers & Contractors who did not recieve monies at this Office. In revising the copies of my receipts to the Treasurer I find an error in my receipt dated March 1[undecipherable] 1795 which was erroneously predicated on a Warrant of the Secretary of War N^o 60, which Should have been N^o 135.
