Safety of Transportation Route
Document 1796Neglected to include notification of receipt from B. Howe in previous letter, now enclosed. Due to lack of safety on travel routes, troops were just paid from present date through end of year.
Pittsburg 15th January 1796 Sir I have to acknowledge the Receipt of your letter of the 5th Instant & I have to acknowledge that I have hitherto neglected to transmit Major Bezeleel Howe’s Receipt for your Packets said to contain 14.436 Dollars intended for pay of the army at Head Quartes Sea *this receipt is however now enclosed and by the date of which you will see that these packets were not any moment unnecessarily detained at this Post - but the Receipt has been inadvertently delayed, you will now however please to have it enlosed to my Credit. As safe opportunities of transmittin Cash to LeBoef by one of my Assistans money to pay the troops there posts up to the end ot the last year. I am Sir Your very obedient Humble Servant Isaac Craig
