[1·2·3] War Office January 12 1790 Sir, The peace concluded with the Indians North west of the Ohio and the proofs which they and the Southern tribes have since given of their sincerity in their friendly behaviours towards our Citizens not only in their exposed settlements, but when met in the Wilderness, satisfies the President of the United States that it is no longer necessary to keep in service either the parties of Militia or the Scouts heretofore employed. It is therefore the desire of the President that if either parties of Militia or Scouts are still in service that they may be forthwith discharged and your Excellency will be pleased to give orders for that purpose.
