Pittsburg January 8^th 1796 Sir Your letter of the first instant is this moment come to hand and was found to enclose a letter to Col. Butler which I have sent him, and as I expect to see him this day the sums you mention will then be adjusted with him and shall then be placed to your Credit. A few days ago Cap. [undecipherable] arrived here from Ft Washington on his way to Philadelphia. Seeing me the commander in chiefs aids and as he says on [undecipherable] service by order of the General furnished him with Horses Saddles &ca for his Journey for which his order and Receipt is enclosed by which he is accountable for delivery to you — Cap Lewis being out of cash applied to me for a small sum to enable him to proceed therefore I have lent him fifty dollars. I have taken for that sum his note on demand which you will find enclosed herewith and endorsed [undecipherable] which I have request you to present for payment and place the amount to my Credit. You will also find enclosed herewith Jeremiah Sturgeon's Reciept for several Trunks & Chests containing the Baggage of General Wayne which is addressed to you and for which the Carriage is to be paid on delivery at the rate of four dollars per hundred pounds. On the 5^th instant in order to save cash [undecipherable] the Artifficers and discharge other accounts in the Quarter Master and Commissary departments at Presqu'isle I [undecipherable] and Ft Franklin and also to replace a part of the Pay of the Troops that has been otherwise appropriated I took up of Oliver [undecipherable: probable reading "Comly"] one thousand dollars for which sum I then drew on you in his favour at sight, which be pleased to pay and charge as usual. In looking over your Letters I don't find an answer more of the 19^th of December 1795. I have therefore now enclosed an extract of that letter respecting [undecipherable] to whom I was under a necessity of advancing fifty dollars to enable them to perform their Engagements — Peter Littler one of the Men alluded to on receiving 40 dollars gave [undecipherable] for that sum constituted for Payment in case that it should not be required by you from [undecipherable: probable reading "Swarty"] [undecipherable] Credit, which I hope you have now together with ten dollars paid to [undecipherable: probable reading "Swarty"] amounting on the whole to fifty dollars. Please to give me information respecting these transactions as early as possible, and should you not have stopt that money from [undecipherable: probable reading "Swarty"] be pleased to accompany your letter by such a certificate as will enable me to put Littler's Note in suit of whom there a chance of recovering forty dollars as he is a man of some property in Westmoreland County. Since that the Coffee and Loaf Sugar you last sent me for my Family is entirely exhausted. I am therefore under a Necessity of requesting you, as soon as convenient to send a further supply.
