Uriah Tracy Esq^r. Department of War Accountants Office January 8^th 1796 — There are several alterations which I conceive actually necessary should take place in the arrangement of the business of this Office which would much facilitate the settlement of the accounts, and in my Opinion requires the interposition of Congress — I will therefor thank you if you see no inconsistency of bringing it forward at this time that you will make the following motion — That there be a Committee appointed for the purpose of making enquiry what alterations if any are necessary to be made in the Office of the Accountant of the Department of War and report accordingly. — I am Sir Y^r William Simmons — Cont. Department of War Agent of War Departm^t Accountants Office January 5^th 1796 — Sir Since closing the forgoing letter, I have received one from the Secretary of War in which he has decided on that part of the Militia claim which I conceived expressly authorized by the President of the United States, and has agreed that the balance being 22,302½ dollars be remitted to you agreeably to an estimate I delivered to him — which you have enclosed for your government — This decision has come too late to forward the Money by this post, but it shall be forwarded to M. Steeus in Charleston — Subject to your orders by the next Post. The claim for 82,573 Dollars will also be decided on before long. — I am Sir Y^r William Simmons
