Department of War— Accountants Office January 5^th 1796— The Secretary. of War— Sir In my last letter to Constant Freeman Agent of the War Department in Georgia I informed him that the Claim of Militia of that State would be decided on without delay— This information I was led to give him from the conversation I had with you a few days ago on that [strikethrough: this] Subject— As the Post will Set out for that Country on Friday next I have thought proper to remind you thereof Sir and that I may be enabled to give the information promised— I am Sir &c— William Simmons Const.^t Freeman Esq^re. Georgia— January 7^th 1796 Sir Enclosed you have Duplicates of my letters of the 21 Ulto— I now have to acknowledge the Receipt of your letter of the 14^th of the same Month— The money required by you therein has been forwarded together with other monies agreeably to the duplicates enclos'd— I taking off the charges against Capt Tinsley I omitted fifty Dollars which he received of Col^o Carrington you will therefore take notice of it accordingly.— Major Richard B. Roberts, some time since drew an order in favor of M^rs Roberts for One hundred and fifteen Dollars to be paid to her from this Office quarterly and he would have the same deducted from his Pay with you— I accordingly have been paying her Order since the 1^st April last and shall continue doing so until I hear from you on the Subject— It is necessary that a Certificate to that effect be forwarded to this Office by you— (setting forth the sum relinquished and that you have or will deduct the amount from his Pay on the Rolls—) for the purpose of passing the Account thro' the other Offices— — There is no decision taken place yet on the Militia business— I have urged it with The Secretary of War but his press of Business has prevented its taking place yet— I hope I shall be enabled to give you Satisfactory information by the next Mails— — I am— Sir &c— William Simmons Augusta De Grasse.
