Dear Sir, I last post brought me a letter, but of a trouble nature I suppose the brigade business, has been discussed in “says” and brought to a Conclusion — I Shall be glad to hear as soon as possible, what that Conclusion is — I Suppose you have Seen an extract from the very long Journal of the St Hasard, with its Damn nasional conclusions, blaming the raising of the frigates here — When I look up the paper I am mist & I Suspected it that Some of Stoddert's Nonsense had immediately Sent to the other printers, and desired my Souls not to print the pieces but on Asking Stoddert if he was the Author of it, to wit — a question that he was not, Nor did he know who was — I must Confess I have been very much Ashamed, at Seeing the pieces, least they never might Suppose, it was published by Some one Concerning our hurting the brigade — Should any one mention to you that they he go rather, my olden or any of the Navy Officers to be the Author of these rediculous pieces, you will please to deny it — I am your very Obt
