[Philad^a 2 Jan^y 1796 To Tench Francis -] Sir Philadelphia Jan^y 2. 1796 I have attentively cons [strikethrough: idered] a your proposal of my undertaking an expedition to Hay Island & its Vicinity to cut what liken timber may be wanted to compleat the [undecipherable] of the Frigates now building - As all the impediments in my family, are removed which prevented my complying earlier with your request - I therefore come forward and tender my services for cutting the necessary liken timber agreeable to Moulds that may be prepared for that purpose, provided the terms are agreeable - in which case my endeavour shall be employed to give satisfaction to yourself, and to the Secretary of War - it will be requisite that suitable instructions should be given me in Writing before my departure from this City, for Regulating my general proceedings and I have no doubt but the result of my exertions will be such as to give satisfaction and remain with Respect &c — Josiah Fox
