Pittsburg 23^th December 1795 Sir I have received your letter of the 19^th Instant — This day I am sending forward a Keel boat with a small load of powder Lead tea as per Copy of Invoice enclosed which I am in hopes will by means of a favorable fresh now in the Ohio reach Fort Washington in a few days I should have sent by this boat a number of the Tents left at this Post by the Militia Army had it not been to late in the season and the number already forwarded been not sufficient to accommodate 2700 men estimating five men to each— The Entrenching Tools that were at this post are mostly been sent to [undecipherable: probable reading "Greenville"] and Fort Franklin. The only Tools now on hand worth notice are those of which I have sent nearly all viz Eighty The Cornplanter by his letter to me dated [undecipherable] the 8 instant requests me to inform you that there is a great deal of damage done on his [undecipherable] by Strong Liquors — Cap. Brant has killed his Son and other Chiefs have done the same and when sober began to repent of their Horrors [undecipherable: probable reading "hence"] in consequence have resigned their Command in the Nation two other Chiefs have been killed lately [and?] one at [undecipherable] the other at Fort Franklin. The latter [undecipherable] be [undecipherable] expected a Compensation for — The whole [undecipherable: probable reading "burthen"] of the Nation now lays on him alone he therefore requests his Fathers the president & you Sir to take pity on him & send him 40 Dollars worth of black & 10 Dollars worth of white Wampum which is to be applied in making a new [undecipherable] to assist him in his Government. He also wishes to hear from you how [undecipherable] know what progress he is making in learning. I have informed Col^o Butler that the money could not be got ready in time for last post.
