[Wrapper endorsements: Pittsburgh [undecipherable] Dec^r 1795 / [undecipherable: Comyn'd?] Simons Thompson / No: 128 [Incluse] / 29 Decr 95 / [317]] Pitsburg Garrison Dec^r 17^th 1795 Sir You have enclosed v:a Journal of my March from Winchester to Pitsburg my accounts I have not had time since I came here arrange but will transmit them with the Muster Roll [strikethrough: when I] On my arrival I received a letter from M^r Simmons informing me that some of my account forwarded in June last was not admitted if I had received it in Winchester It could easily have been answered as the Magistrates before whom the men were sworn could have certified the Inlistment & always paying part of the bounty Every Inlistment I made is now in my possession with a receipt on it for the whole bounty but where I doubted I & delayed the payment as much as possible & only charge what they received John Riley's not being mustered was an omission when I was from home M^r Peyton certified on the Ret. Roll that he saw Fulk receive the whole of his bounty as I could get them on no other terms the last two King & Helmick Inlisted but two or three days before they Marched they were mustered & the Muster Roll Given to M^r Peyton a duplicate of which I now have. When I gave a little money to Serjants in going in pursuit of Deserters I thought it might look dubious taking rec^ts from them who, it might be thought, would sign any thing I desired As for the Musie money I thought it enough on my part to bear my own expences & treat the men at times without paying every thing I can send you if you please every Inlistment made in Winches since I went there until I marched as I paid M^r Peyton & took his on myself I wish nothing unjust nor would receive any thing on such terms but would be glad if you would think worth while to call on any or all the respectable characters in Winch to know with [strikethrough: the] what attention & Industry I attended to my business & in what order I kept the men I am with respect Sir Your obedient Serv^t M^r W^m Simmons David Thompson En^s U.S. Leg.
