Pittsburg 11^th December 1793 Sir Col^o Sproat has called on me with your letter of the 26^th Ultimo respecting a Compensation for his Services as Assistant Quarter Master at Marietta from the 19^th of July 1793 to the 1^st of January 1793 as stated in his account which I have enclosed &which I have considered it necessary to pay after seeing the solemn means he has taken to establish it — his letter to me on this subject accompanies the Account — I sincerely wish that that account had been settled elsewhere and has passed through my hands with more reluctence than any other account I have yet been concerned. I have by this days Mail enclosed to Hodgdon an estimate of Objects of Expenditure in the Quarter Master Department at this post and its dependences up to the end of the year the amount Dollars 12.798.90cents — this sum is immediately wanted to enable me to complete the business of the year.
