Maryland Department of Wa[r] Accountants' Offi[ce] December 2^d [—] Sir I have received your le[tter] of the 28 Ult^mo enclosing Ensign David Thompson[s] Receipt for the Sum of two hundred forty seven D[ollars] and fifty five cents being for pay of himself and the recruits under his command at Winchester the month of October 1795 and also for the conting[ent] expences of marching his men — which sum shal[l be] charged to the Credit of your Acc^t on the Books of th[is] Office. — I am Sir &^c. William Simm[s] --- Lieu^t Horatio R. Dayton, Governors Island. — Department of War[,] Accountants' Offi[ce] December 5[—] Sir Your letter of the 2^d Ins^t com[ing] Pay and muster Roll of the detachment under your comm[and] for the month of November 1795 I have received, and th[e] amount after examination thereof, appears to be one hun[dred] and eighteen Dollars, which will be remitted to Nicholas[,] Sherman, New York — who will pay the same to you an[d] you will give your Duplicate Receipts — to be acco[unted] for the due application thereof. It appears by yo[ur] Muster Roll that you could not ascertain the dat[es] of Inlistments of Sundry men entered therein — I ha[ve] therefore noted on the enclosed list the dates for yo[ur] government — I am Sir &^c.
