[Sec^y of War Nov 26. 1795 after order.] War Office Nov. 26. 1795. Sir, Inclosed is a return of the ordnance & military stores laden on board the brigantine in which you will embark for S^t Marys river. The nine pounders and one of the four pounders are to be placed in the fort near the town of S^t Marys, with their proper ammunition and utensils. The two other four pounders with their ammunition, and a due proportion of the musket cartridges and accoutrements, tents, and one of the garrison flags, you will lodge at the post of Colerain, or where the post for the Indian trade shall be established. A part of the troops embarking at the port of Philadelphia and at Richmond, destined for Saint Marys river being to take post at or near the town of S^t Marys, you will give to the oldest officer there the charge of the ordnance & military stores proper to be left at that place: seeing that they are properly stored. The counterpart for the brigantine in which you will embark, allows ten lay-days after your arrival at Colerain: for every day after the ten are elapsed the United States will be obliged to pay a demurrage of thirty dollars a day. Hence you will see the propriety of hastening the unloading of the brigantine. Your military experience supercedes the necessity of suggesting the caution to be used in regard to the ammunition, not only for preserving it, but to guard against accidents from an explosion: it is hinted here merely because magazines proper or well fitted for its reception may be wanting; and which defect, if it exists, you will take the earliest measures to remedy, both at S^t Marys & Colerain.
