Sir, I have to acknowledge the [Receipt] of your Letter of the 21^st Ultt. enclosing the Receipt of Augusta De Grafe for 230 Dollars which Sum ha[s] been passed to your Credit. In answer to that part of your Letter which relates to the Commissions, I have to inform you that your Account Current with the War Department has been transmitted to this Office from the Treasury, in order that such Sums as were proper to be settled at this Office might be selected therefrom. But as no other but your Commissions on receiving & paying Monies from this Dep^t are to be settled at the Office. I have to request that you would state a separate Account thereof to the end of the present ^Quarter or^ year and transmit the Same to this Office, when the Amount will be remitted to you, & in future I would recommend that you forward your Acc^t quarterly or half yearly (as may be most convenient) to this Office & the am^t. of your Commission will be remitted to you. The Money advanced for the Pay of the Militia cannot be settled at present, but as Col.
