Dear Sir
I have received your letter of the 24th instant enclosing in Post notes one thousand Dollars and an Invoice of Medicine & Hospital Stores a part of which are this day by Thomas Marlin Waggoner
You will find enclosed herewith Charles Underwood's Order on you for fifty five dollars being Money advanced to enable him to proceed to Head Quarters & return to Philadelphia - this sum you will please to place to my credit - Dunnoway Wagg[on]'s Receib[t] in a trunk and a mail box is also enclosed - please to have those two Articles on their Arrival delivered as directed
On the Arrival of Hospital and other Stores I have always endeavored to ascertain whether any Embez-zlement has taken place [James [undecipherable: Lonity] Waggoner interlined] on weighing Cask N° 3, said to contain Spirits it was found too light - thirty two pounds and on starting two of the hoops a Gimblet hole was discovered - out of which I suppose has issued the 32oz of Spirits
Col° O'Hara will be with you in a few days - Pray have you any Idea of what new Arrange-ments are to take place in the Quarter Master Department
Be pleased to send when you have leisure a Quarter Cask of Sherry, such as you would have no objection to take a Glass of
I am
With great esteem
D[ea]r Sir
Samuel Hodgdon Esqr Your Mo[st] Oble Servant
