Sir,
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 12th instant, and the delivery of two thousand, four hundred, and fifty four dollars and forty one cents as the pay for the month of September, 1795 of the Corps of Artillery and Engineers at West Point. Mr Samuel Reifner will deliver to you my duplicate receit for the accountability of the due application of that Sum.
I have paid Mr Samuel Reifner one dollar and one cent, as the Balance of my recruiting account, which Sum you will be pleased, on the receit, to pass to my credit.
Duty, in the line of the regiment, obliges me to defer to the next post, a more particular reply to your letter of the 12th instant.
I have received your duplicate letter of the 12th october, together with the blank receit rolle, which accompanied it.
