Collectors Office Wilmington Oct.^r 27. 1795 Sir I have received a letter from M^r Peter Hagner dated 20^th August Informing me that the Secretary of War had drawn a Warrant in my favour for three hundred Dollars which Sum would be transmitted to me by the Treasurer of the United States And directing me to pay the same to Griffith & M^cKee Cap^t in the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers for the Recruiting service, which Sum I received being a post Note of the Bank of the United States, enclosed in a letter from the Treasurer of the United States dated Aug.^t the 20^th and paid the Amount to Cap^t M^cKee for which I took triplicate receipts one of which is enclosed in this Letter, another shall be transmitted by next post agreeably to M^r Hagner's request, the third I shall keep lest any accident should happen to those transmitted I am Sir y^r respectfully Your ob: Ser: James Read The Accountant of the Department of War Philadelphia [James Read Rec'd 30^th Nov.
