Sir, I have received your letters of the 26^th June and 25^th August 1795 with your Account Current for Pay and personal Expences. As the pay and Allowance of the Engineers not being fixed by Congress and as the Sec^y of War by his Certificate does not sanction any Allowance more than pay at the rate of two Dollars p^r day all other Charges in your Account I must therefore consider inadmissible. Your Account has been stated from 1 April 94 to 30^th June 95 inc^l which is 456 Days at 2 dls. p^r day makes - 912 from which deduct the Sums received by you at different Periods - - - - - - - - - - - - - 550 Dol^ls 362 leaving a Balance due you of three hundred & sixty two Dol. which Sum you will receive of Daniel Stevens Sup^t Charleston, for which you will please sign duplicate Rec^ts I am Sir &c.
