Caleb Swan Esq^r D. of War. Accountants Office Paymaster General October 17. 1795. Sir, On the other Side you have duplicate of my Letter of the 10^th Instant by Major Haskell. I now close you the Schedule taken from the warrant Books in continuation for your Government. Notwithstanding it appeared by your do of the 17^th May last that Capt Greaton's Pay was continued on the Pay Rolls after 1^st April and the relinquishment of the Dollar P^r Month considered as discontinued. The clo of M has been induced through the frequent applications of M^rs G to advance her the sum of ninety Dollars on account of her Husband's Pay, as you will observe by the enclosed Schedule of Warrants drawn. You will therefore please take the necessary Steps to have that Sum deducted from his Pay & inform me thereof. There appears to have been a Misunderstanding in the Relinquishment of that Part of Captain Greaton's Pay, it not having been considered for the use of his Family, and of Course was discontinued with you on the 1^st of April 1794, owing perhaps to the Power of Attorney, not mentioning to be for the use of his Family. If therefore it should be the wish of Capt Greaton to continue the Relinquishment for the use of his Family, it will be necessary for him to procure your Certificate thereof and empower some Person to receive the amount; the power to set forth that the amount is for the use of his Family. If this will please inform me by the first Opportunity in expectation of hearing from you soon on the Subject of my last Letter. I am Sir &c W^m Simmons
