The Secretary of War
Sir,
As Capt Benjn Price as applied to you by Letter of the 10th inst for his Pay: I have thought proper to inform you before the same is transmitted to him, that he stands charged in the Books of this Office with the following Sums of Money for which he has never produced any Vouchers.
Out 1792 he received 1264.29 for pay of his Company of Lives
Do ............. 1000.... for Recruiting.
1793 ........... 3058.68 for pay of the 4th Subdivision.

From these Circumstances you will please to decide whether his pay shall be remitted to him or not.

I have to inform you that George Gale Esqr received, in addition to the former Sum advised you of, the Sum of two thousand five hundred Dollars on acct of the pay of the Maryland Militia. As all Sums for the pay of the Militia have gone through your hands, you have been charged with this Sum on the Books of this Office. You will please therefore forward your duplicate Receipts for the amount and withhold the enclosed Receipt of George Gale for your Satisfaction.
