Pittsburg October 1795 S^r My being under a necessity of setting off on the 22^d Ultimo to visit the Posts of Fort Franklin, Le Bœuf & Presqu'isle, Your letters of the 18^th & 25^th ultimo arrived at Pittsburg in my absence, and, also that of the 3^d Instant on the day of my return, but so late that I had not the pleasure then of acknowledging the receipt of it. From your letter of the 18^th Ultimo enclosed two thousand dollars in post notes that of the 25^th eighteen hundred dollars and that of the 3^d instant one thousand dollars also in Post notes, the whole of which has come safe to hand & I find that M^r Park has agreeable to my Orders advised you of the Receipt of the two former sums. Several Waggons with Hospital Stores has lately arrived and generally in good Order but on inspecting a box delivered by Mathew Doath Barrel N^o 33 said to contain 49 Coffee was found to contain rice only — and Barrel N^o 8 of James Hamilton's too said to contain thirty one Gallons to also weigh CW 2. 3. 9 is marked on the back CW 2. 2. 9 which is precisely the weight at this place the back being nearly full. I am much obliged to you for the attention you have paid to my Business with M^r Guen & have to request you to continue your attention until the business is completed. The Quarter Master General is on his way from head Quarters and expected here on Saturday next, he is retiring from public Business and will I presume be with your shortly in order to complete a Settlement of his public Accounts. My Return up to the first of October will be ready and transmitted by next post. I am at a loss to know whether any Separate Appropriation of Meavines & Hospital Stores for the upper posts of the Ohio has been made or am I to take a proper supply for those posts from the Quantity now here & coming forward. I presume it would be improper to delay the transportation of all the Stores at this Place for your Answer as the Season for navigating the Ohio is far advanced & boats now waiting. I shall therefore on a few days ship the greater part of the Stores for Fort Washington. I have had information of a barrel of Sugar arriving for Family Use in some one of the late Waggons. Your letter of the 7^th instant is this moment come to hand together with the packet of news papers. You will find enclosed James Hamilton's Note for twenty dollars which sum please to retain it Settlement of his Waggon Account & place it to my credit.
