[from Thomas Holb Oct^r 9^th 1795] [Thomas Holb Esquire William Simmons Esquire] New London Virginia October 9^th 1795 I have herewith transmitted to you my Rolls and Estimate together with my account current to be 39. [undecipherable] — I have drawn for five hundred dollars to meet contingent expences which, frequently occur for which I can make no, provision in my Estimates, which I beg you to favor me with — I have taken the liberty to draw several orders on you agreeable to the memorandum enclosed which I request you will please pay and charge to my Account — to be deducted from the Estimates; The amount of those several orders being one thousand five hundred and Twenty Eight dollars 65 Cents, the balance remaining is Six hundred and Fifty one dollars 52 Cents which I request you will forward to me as usual. By means of these orders I am into the possession of a considerable Sum of money which is favorable to advance to the Soldiers at this time as I suspect to be absent two months; my Account current would have been nearly balanced If I could have time to have adjusted and settled several accounts where I have received the Cash, their Vouchers will be forwarded with the next Account.
