Sir, The Packet of Newspapers [undecipherable] arrived by this days Post but not accompanied by a letter from you as usual. I mention this circumstance because you intimated in your letter of the 5^th Instant, that you intended a remittance by this days Post. A considerable quantity of Cloathing having lately come to hand, I am now preparing to forward it to Fort Washington but previous to shipping it I find it necessary to select Cloathing for the troops on the upper posts of the Ohio, this task has been occasioned by my sending forward the packages that I now perceive contained Cloathing for that purpose. Colo Butlers Estimate of Cloathing for the Troops now at the upper posts & Recruits expected amounts to upwards of two hundred Suits including Non-commissioned Officers & Musicians. The First hours you have to spare from your Official duties and Amusements, I have to beg of you to devote to this particular service of your friends. Viz: A certain M^r Grier of Philadelphia, is Owner of two ten Acre Lots of Land on the west side of Allegheny & opposite Fort Fayette, those Lots being contiguous to a small piece of Ground of mine & directly opposite to a lot my property on the East side of the River, it is therefore of considerable importance to me, to be possessed of it; I have therefore to request you to call upon M^r Grier & if possible negotiate this business for me, the Lots are numbered 42 & 43 of the Out Lots of the town intended by Acts of Assembly to have been erected opposite Pittsburg. — perhaps it may be good Policy to transact this business without my name appearing in it until the price is fixed, & I have no Objection to your paying as high as forty Dollars p^er Acre, but I am in hopes you will be able to purchase much lower, as soon as you inform me of your compleating this business I shall transmit you a draft on Pole Forrest to reimburse you for a principal part of the Amount. — Should you not have leisure immediately on the receipt of this letter it is probable M^r John Harris will undertake to negotiate this business for which my most grateful acknowledgments will be due.
