Sir, Agreeably to Your Instructions, I have Inspected & proved, One Thousand and Sixty Six Rifles, which were made under the direction of General [undecipherable] — which are all Stamp'd US. well oiled, papered and Packed in suitable Chests for the purpose of transportation. — Of the Muskets & Rifles deposited under the charge of Col. [undecipherable] — there are about Four Hundred — which were cleaned without the Bayonets, being fitted, or the necessary repairs made, I have therefore left them in that state, Judging them not fit for either Inspection, or Service. — Of the Musket Bands, Bayonets and Ram-rods made under the Contract of M^r. [undecipherable] & [undecipherable], about Two Hundred have been proved, they appear well made & fit for Service. — All the Bayonets and Ramrods made under that Contract are of very bad Steel, therefore will not pass Inspection. — John Nicholson Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r.
