Sir
Upon favour of the 8th Instant is received.
The box of Stationary by the hands of Edwd White is arrived, Jno. Winthrop Sargent was present at opening of it & had curiosity enough to inspect the contents & has taken two of the boxes of Wafers which he will show you 23 out of 36 being in a similar condition & the whole of them in some degree damaged which must have taken place previous to their leaving the Stationer house in Philadelphia the other articles being perfectly en Sale. This letter exhibits a Specimen of the United States Superfine paper which you will observe is not of the first quality & I presume will on the whole be led to believe that the Stationer has imposed on the Purchaser.
You will greatly Oblige me by furnishing me with an Estimate of the Weight of Cloathing & other Stores yet in Philadelphia & on the road that are this Season to be transported to Fort Washington, It will enable me to make a proper Estimate for the means in due time.
I am with great esteem
