Sir Immediately on the receipt of your letter I wrote to M^r [undecipherable] directing [undecipherable] of the day for commencing the treaty with the [undecipherable] Indians, and also of the day when the N. York Commissioners would probably rendez-vous at Albany. On the [undecipherable: next?] day I received a letter from the Governor informing that he had fixed on the 18^th of the present month, September, for holding the treaty, at Fort George, at the south end of Lake George. I have since received no other advice from him, nor do I know who are the Commissioners on the part of the State. I do not conceive any instructions necessary for your guide, other than the Law of the United States exhibits. The inclosed extract contains all that relates to the subject. as you were in Congress when it was enacted, the mode of carrying it into effect will doubtless be the more obvious. I will only remark, that altho' the negotiation is [undecipherable] for obtaining a cession of land for New York, yet [undecipherable] to have [undecipherable] of the treaty [undecipherable] or convention [undecipherable] ratified by the President [undecipherable] with the [undecipherable] consent of the Senate.
