Pittsburg 28^th August 1795. Sir, I have received your letter of the 22^d Instant enclosing one addressed to Colo Rochefontaine & a Duplicate of Yours of the 20^th by Charles Anderson who is arrived with Cash for the Pay of the Troops as expressed in your letter — The two thousand five hundred & Seventy Dollars Appropriated for the Pay & Forage of the Regular Troops at the Upper Posts of the Ohio He has delivered to me, & will with the other set off this afternoon for Wheeling in order to take a passage on board the Mail boat which I believe to be the most expeditious and as safe a Conveyance as can at this Season be devised, I shall therefore write to the Post-Master at Wheeling to accomodate M^r Anderson. A recent Account from Greenville informs us that on the 20^th Ultimo the terms of Pacification with the Western Indians was then fully agreed on by all the Contracting parties which were very Numerous. Notwithstanding the means I had provided for transportation of Provisions & Stores to Presqu'isle was in my Opinion sufficient. I am, on the requisition of Colo Rochefontaine who is anxious to have a large quantity of Provisions immediately deposited encreasing the Number of Pack Horses to Seventy five & have at his particular request sent forward a considerable quantity of Salt Pork which notwithstanding it was in excellent Order at leaving this place I am apprehensive it will be injured by being exposed to the Intense Heat of the Season I therefore have not depended on Salt Provisions but have already sent forward Beef Cattle. I am now sending a supply of live Stock for the Post of Presqu'isle and Le Bœuf up to the 10^th of December by which time I expect to have a sufficient supply deposited for the Winter.
