Aug.^t 1795 Sir Inclosed I transmit you a Muster Roll and Pay Roll for the months of June and July, I have still inserted James Boyar (who was taken by the Civil authority) as I have some expectation of getting him again, the circumstance will be determined before next muster — I have also inserted John Smith as it was in June that he was discharged, until which time he received pay — John Reader who is hear in confinement, deserted from Maj. Roberts when he was a Captain and Recruiting in Charleston — Augustine Lopez who I have put in the bottom of the Muster Roll, deserted from Fort St. Tammany on the River St. Marys in the State of Georgia, was taken in Charleston and Confined here, but having no convenient place, he in a few days made his escape — I have for this some time past been laboring under a severe indisposition but hope soon to recover so far as to be able to expedite my Accounts — I have also inclosed you a Duplicate of a Letter I had the honor of writing you on the 23 July, the original of which and its inclosures, I hope you have received — I am Sir with respect your most Obt. Post with its inclosures] South Carolina Fort Johnson July 23. 1795 Sir I wrote you on the 27^th June inclosing Muster & Pay Rolls up to the last of May — I now transmit you Receipt Rolls and receipts for the pay of Officers and Soldiers who where paid by me; should there be any irregularity, I hope you will make an allowance as it is the first, — I have accompanied them with an Account Current, and stated the ballance that remains in my hands — The ballance taken from the Receipt Rolls will amount to twenty Cents more then is stated in the Account Current, which the Receipt Roll for July, August, & September, amounting to three hundred seventy eight Dollars fifty three Cents will specify, but the letter accompanying the same from the former Account mentions only three hundred seventy eight dollars thirty three Cents which was the amount of the money I received for the above mentioned three months; I did not suppose it of Consequence, but as there appeared a difference in the ballances, I took the liberty to mention it — I have in possession Duplicates of the Receipt Rolls and receipts inclosed, except Lieut. Cox's receipt, who refused to sign a duplicate, I have therefore kept the original and have taken the liberty of inclosing you a Certified duplicate which I hope will answer — John Smith had pay due from the 1^st of Feb.^y, to 16^th June, the day he was discharged, and paid by the direction of Major Freeman — I will thank you to inform me when the bounty of fourteen dollars for recruits commences, if from 1^st Jan.^y 1795 agweable to the raising of the Soldiers pay, as the Act does not particularly specify; I await your information on this subject, and shall then transmit my Recruiting account.
