George Fleming, Esq^o D of War Accountants' Office West Point August 1^st 1795 Sir The accounts rendered by you have all been examined and stated, and after charging you with the sum of 2,699 D^ols received of Doc^t Lawton there remains a balance against you of 1,311 ⁹⁹/₁₀₀ which sum will be carried to your debit on your next Account, this balance is 260 ⁹⁰/₁₀₀ Dollars short of the sum against you agreeably to your own Statement, owing to Sundry errors having been discovered leaving that balance on the Account of Errors in Your favor. a Copy of which I herewith enclose to you. There will be transmitted to you through the hands of Col^o Fiske the sum of 6,000 Dollars for the Contingent and Incidental expences at West Point, in the disbursement thereof I would recommend to you to use the greatest frugality and economy, and to be particular in having all your charges supported by sufficient and well Authenticated Vouchers, not to let the Receipt for the payment be the only evidence that the Article was furnished or that the services were performed — It would very much facilitate the examination and settlement of your Accounts if you would be particular in keeping your Sundry disbursements under their several general heads, and to pay the men employed by you for their Extra pay on payrolls founded on Musters Shewing that they were actually employed. It is expected that from the Number of Artificers lately arrived at West Point by the Corps assembling there, that the expences of hiring will be greatly lessoned. You will also receive 279 Dollars for the pay of those men for the months of April May and June 1795, belonging to the 1^st and 2^d Sublegion now at West Point, who in future are to be Mustered Monthly under the direction of the Commanding Officer at the Garrison.
