Sir, I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 16^th instant Captain [undecipherable] Morris went from hence on the 18^th to receive from Nicholas Goff Esq^r the two thousand, five hundred and forty four dollars and three cents, which you have remitted to the paymaster at West Point. & will deliver to him the receipts Signed by me as required. I would solicit your attention to extracts which I enclose to you, from the Council of Administration, held at this garrison on the 18^th instant. By the receipt rolls, retained at West Point by Captain Morris on the 1^st of June last, three several sums appear to shew the aggregate amounts of 445 dollars 62 cents. The sum of the receipt role of a Detachment of the Corps of Artillery and Engineers at West Point June 1^st 1795. amounts to Dolls 199.02 The sum of the receipt role for one months pay to Lieutenant David Hales recruits amounts to — 140.60 The life of bounty due to recruits at West Point the 1^st June 1795 exclusive to what may be due to Lieut David Hales recruits — Sub 405.62 From the above amount, it has been [undecipherable: supposed] that twenty five dollars due on the 1^st of June [undecipherable] to Lieut J. P. [undecipherable] and eighty dollars, and forty cents due to Lieut [undecipherable] at the same date, were to be deducted, the amount of these gentle- men being otherwise [undecipherable]. [undecipherable] two [undecipherable] amounts to — 106. 60 — [undecipherable].02 The money [undecipherable: sent] to the paymaster, and [undecipherable: said] to be appropriated to the payment of the muster rolls of the 1^st June 1775. amounts to — 1055.07 No receipt rolls have been received from your office, by which the [undecipherable] of this difference could be [undecipherable]. In the receipt role for the 30^th of June, 1795 Philip [undecipherable] and Philip Rodriguez [undecipherable] are omitted. They were appointed on the 18^th of March last, and received a few days after their appointment [undecipherable] months pay in advance.
