Pittsburgh 17th July 1795
Sir
By the arrival of Colo. Rochefontaine on the 15th Instant I received your letter of the 2d.
I shall endeavour by every necessary attention to facilitate the works intended at Presqu'Isle or any intermediate Posts, and in order to give all possible assistance, and to forward the Transportation of the Stores from Port Franklin & Laboeuf I have concluded to accompany the Colo. to Presqu'Isle. If we have determined to set off on the 20th I find it necessary to take this Journey as well to facilitate the transportation as to receive the Stores & Provisions & now at Laboeuf & to provide for their being deposited at Presqu'Isle.
General Wilkins has agreed to deliver Eight Thousand Rations of the Provision now at Laboeuf on the terms of his Contract with the State of Pennsylvania. This depot at Laboeuf will remove any difficulty in the way of immediate supplies of Provision at Presqu'Isle as neither French Creek or the Allegheny are Navigable.
I have herewith enclosed and transmitted an Abstract of Expenditures in the Qr Master Department at this Post during the last three Months the amount is Nine thousand & Seventeen Dollars, forty two Cents. The Vouchers of the Disbursements & a similar Abstract is this day transmitted to the Comptroller of the Treasury. I intended now to have transmitted a General Return of Stores but find it impracticable to compleat it until my Return from Presqu'Isle.
I am Sir your very obt
