Sir You having received from this Office the sum of One thousand nine hundred and thirty three Dollars 2/100 being for the pay of yourself and the Detachment of Militias under your command called into service by Col.^o Ebenezer Sproat for the protection of Gallipolis from 11 October 1794 to 30.^th April 1795 incl. You are held accountable for the due Application thereof agreeably to the inclosed Receipt Rolls. — In making the payments you will please to have in view that assignments of the pay of a Non Commissioned Officers or privates are not Valid — If some of the Claimants should not be able to come forward in Such cases if application is made by a power of Attorney it ought to express that the money is to be Received for the use and benefit of the Soldiers, and to be properly acknowledged before a Magistrate in taking the Receipts it is to be observed that where the signature is not written it is to be Witnessed by a respectable evidences — when the payments are compleated as far as you can make them — The Receipt-Roll is to be transmitted to this Office, for your exoneration and the Balance (if any) remaining in your hands is to be refunded to the Treasurers of The United States — As dispatch in compleating the payments is highly Necessary it is expected that no exertions on your part, will be wanting to have the same effected as soon as possible. — I am Sir Y^e — William Simmons
