July] W^m Simmons Esquire Accountant of the War Department New York West Point Jul 4 179[5] Sir In a letter dated a few days since, I inclosed an order from Major Roberts in favor of M^rs Roberts for a part of his pay as Maj^r which is to be paid Quarterly, & requested the fav[o]r of an answer from you on the Subject Since that M^rs R. has received a letter from the Maj^r informing her he had written to the accountant men= tioning the transaction, & that she might rest assured that the money would be paid. I fancy the letter must have been received by your predecessor. As I am the agent of the Maj^r & have the charge of his family in this Country I feel the necessity of repeating my request that you would attend to that business, & be so kind as to let me have your answer — I would also b[y] leave to observe [yo]u that we all at this [^Garrison] are without [pa]y & would be glad of a small rem[i]ttance — I am with respect — Sir Your Ob^ed Serv^t.
