In the absence of the Accountant I have to inform you that the Secretary advanced to George Gale Esq, the sum of Five thousand Dollars on account of the Pay of the Maryland Militia as you will observe by the inclosed Receipt. — as all advances for that purpose have gone thro you, you have been charged with that sum on the Books of this Office it is necessary therefore that you should forward your Receipts for that amount, and retain his Receipt for your satisfaction, for which purpose I have inclosed you Blank Receipts which you will please to fill up, and sign them and forward them by different opportunities to this Office. —
