[Letter from John Bryant Spring= field June 25^th 1795] [Address:] Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Superintendent of Ordnance Philadelphia Springfield June 23 1795 Sir I received your letter [undecipherable] [undecipherable] and I have sent in my accounts and vouchers to the [undecipherable: last] of this month to the other office by the request of the accountant. I did not take duplicates of all the vouchers, but if you request it, I can make out another account and send it on to you. I have not received nor discovered any stores in the month of May except two boxes of [undecipherable] for the Carriages Works. it would have been well for [undecipherable] [to have] kept an account of the stock received and [undecipherable: expended] but I never had any direction about it but [undecipherable]. That I received from the Secretary of War and you, as [undecipherable] was to send in a return of the works done, and to to inform you how the Carriages would do. There [undecipherable] some of the Carriages finished except the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] which are [undecipherable: included] in the return. the Mounters are finished all but painting over and [undecipherable] fixing the bases in the hubs. that I think [it] best to [undecipherable] left till the Carriages are nearly [undecipherable: completed] for unless the hubs is dry it will make them crack. and the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Token of and mainly when the [undecipherable] are dry before I send on the next return I will open the [undecipherable] cartridge paper and see how much they contain. The greater part of the gunrods is bad and fit for no other purpose then to work up as Iron the Armourers are pick Them over. Then they will be counted or weighed and I shall return them by weight or number. I shall weigh the Chests of Carbine rods and return them by weight. also the boxes of one pound ball, and grape shot. There is but little of the Iron gun mounting that is fit for Service when that is picked over I will weigh that which the Armourers condemn.
