Sir, This Packet inclosing your Letter of the 12^th Instant is received. It is unfortunate that the Clothing & other Stores are so late in coming forward, and particularly as the expence & risque of transportation from hence to Fort Washington encreases in proportion as the water of the Ohio decreases. My Letter by last Post to the Secretary of War enclosed an Invoice of Chicasaw Indian Goods delivered. M^r Anthony Porter — Since his departure several Packages of Goods marked Chicasaw have come to hand & as I dont know of any Opportunity of sending them directly to Nashville, I wish to know whether I am to send them to Fort Washington or to retain them till further Orders from the Secretary of War. I am under a particular necessity of beging of you to call on the Comptroller of the Treasury, I request him to transmit [from] your hands one of my Accounts of Expenditures which shall immediately be actioned, Viz N^o 1193 — in order to rectify an error that the Comptroller says he has discovered in my Accounts, the Account alluded to is for Services of John Denny & two other Boatmen, should the Comptroller think its improper to transmit the Accounts, be pleased to examine if John Dennys Signature stands on the Receipts — and inform me by next Post. I shall not neglect your Advances to Campbell on Settlement [undecipherable].
