D. of War Accountants Office Cap^t of Art^y & Engines May 26^th 1795 Norfolk — Sir You will receive from Edward Carrington Esq^r Dep^t the sum of seven hundred and sixty four dollars and sixty three cents being for your pay, Pay of Lieut George Hardy and John Saunders, and the recruits under your command, for your and their pay for the Months of January and February 1795 for [undecipherable] which sum you are held accountable, and will give him duplicate receipts. It is intended that hereafter each Officer shall be make out his own pay roll, and transmit the same to this Office on receipt of which an examination will take place, and the amount found due thereon transmitted in the usual way — I shall therefore inclose blank Pay Bills and Muster rolls for that purpose also a copy of to the above sum which you will pay agreeably thereto and transmit the same to this Office for your exoneration. — Sam Sir Y^c William Simmons
