Sir I have been fav^d with your letter of the 12^th Int^t. M^r Forkner has paid me 187 ⁵⁰/₁₀₀ dollars and for which I have signad duplicate receipts. With respect to the certificate necessary for me to forward to you, you do not say who it must come from. If it is necessary I will forward a [underline: Certified] Copy of my appointment from a Magistrate. On the 9^th of Jan^y. last I received a letter from Gen^l. Knox dated 31^st. Dec^r. 1794. Inclosing my appointment as Clerk of the Navy Yard at Boston under a date also of the 31^st. Dec^r. 1794. The next morning I saw Gen^l. Jackson (the Naval agent for this department) shew him my letter and Instructions and gave him to understand that I should accept the appointment. The few days between the appointment and acceptance cannot I am persuaded have sufficient weight with you to make that Cesm of such moment as to prevent my receiving my pay from 31^st. Dec^r. 1794.
