South Carolina Fort Johnston, 24^th May 1795 Sir, Your favour of the 19^th Ultimo was delivered me by D^r Gillasphy, who did not arrive here till the 20^th Inst, he also delivered me four hundred Dollars for which I have given him triplicate Receipts — I shall pay particular attention to your observations and directions, and send you every necessary voucher and Receipt, when I finally Settle the Recruiting account, and make up all my accounts as quick as possible, as it is my wish and firm intention to have no accounts Standing that can be Settled. — When D^r Gillasphy left this for Philadelphia, his account for Subsistance was Settled up to the 31^st of March, — In the Contractor presenting the accounts for April Spend he had inserted the D^r Subsistance, but had no returns from him for so doing, as I constantly expected the D^r, and no idea of his drawing Rations when absent, I desired the Contractor Since he had inserted it in the abstract, to receive the money and be accountable, — but on his arrival he informed me he had been allowed his expenses and was not to draw Rations for April, — to late I discovered the error, his Subsistance is not inserted in the present months account, which I hope will answer the same purpose, knowing him to be exact on the least Mistake, and very particular in his accounts.
