Sir I have this day accu[undecipherable] your inclosures covering the receipt of Ensign Edwa[undecipherable] Wolf for one hundred fifty three dollars and [undecipherable] three Cents —.— I am Sir Y^rs William Simmon[s] Daniel Stevens. Esq^r D of War Accountants Off[ice] Sup^r Charleston May 19^th 179[5] Sir I advised you by my l[etter] of 15 Instant of the Treasurers remittance of Four hun- dred dollars to be paid to Paul H. Perrault Temporary Engineer on account of his compensation &c. Since which his bill for a like sum has been pre- sented at this Office and paid, in consequence of which the Secretary of War. has directed that the su[m] in your hands should be paid to Daniel De Sau- sure at Charleston for the Fortifications of that pla[ce] you will therefore pay the same to him taking his Receipt to be Accountable and transmitting them to this Office. — I am Sir Y^rs — William Simmons Paul H. [In] advising you of a remittance of Four hundred dollars made by the Treasurer of the United States to Daniel Stevens Esq^r. to be paid to you— since which your draft in favor of Nicholas [undecipherable] for a like sum has been presented and paid— I have in consequence thereof by order of the Secretary of War, directed Stev[ens] to pay the amount to Daniel De Saussure at Charleston on account of the Fortifications at that place of you should have received the sum you will please pay the same to him taking his Receipt for the same to be Accountable and transmitting them to this Office — It is necessary that you should forward to this Office your Account up to a certain period say 31^st May and any Balance found due to you will be paid as you may direct and after that period you will please to transmit your Account every month or two to this Office advi[sing] how you wish to receive the amount. — I am Sir Y^rs — William Simmons Daniel De Saussure. Sup^r. the sum of Four hundred dollars which which Sum was transmitted to him by the Treasurer of the United States on the 15 Instant for the pur- pose of paying the same to Paul H. Perrault Engin[eer] but a Bill for that Amount drawn by M^r Perrault hav- ing been presented at this Office and paid— The Sec[retary] of War has ordered the sum to be paid into your hands to be applied in the like manner to the former su[m]
