Arty + Engrs.] West Point May 18^th 1795 Sir In pursuance of the letter I received from the Secretary at War dated April 6^th 1795 I embarked with the Recruits under my command for Boston, where the Adjutant M^r Lovell [undecipherable] another detachment under my command and at Newport a [undecipherable] with whom I have arrived safe at this place on Saturday the 16 instant Inclosed you will receive a Muster roll of the Recruits Enlisted by myself at Portsmouth. It is dated at Newport but from the circumstances of being on a March. It was not [in] my power to swear to the Muster whilst my arrival at this place, I am informed by the Men who were enlisted by Mess^rs Frye, Littlefield, D Hale, & Freeman who were severally joined to my Detachment. That they have received no pay since the 28^th of February as those enlisted by Cap^t Littlefield have received none.
