Philad^a May 18^th 1795. Dear Sir Your letter of the 16^th Inst was handed me this morning — I immediately set off to obtain the information relative to the States Land Warrants, and from every point in View they cannot be had under twenty eight dollars, [strikethrough: they are there at Marked] they are rising daily, & if I can lay my hands on any under that it may be presumed they may do, of which you will will please to inform me — In respect to the Virginia Lands the Sum offered would not pay for the Patents consequently that Speck is at an end in your Quarter — I should [strikethrough: most] be exceedingly unhappy on the indisposition of my only Child were I not convinced that every attention will be paid him in his Illness — your friendship will I make no doubt dictate the necessity of a Physician on the occasion, of this, my friend you have not mentioned in your letter, tho' I flatter myself attention has been paid to it — please present my best respects to M^rs Dayton & send the enclosed to my Sister — it was fortunate I did not take your papers as I could not travel farther than Princeton — yesterday brought me here — I do not hear of any thing new or interesting — I am Dear Sir Your Ob^t Serv^t Joseph Howell [Jonathan Dayton Esq^r] [PAID 20] [19 MA] [May 18, 95]
