Fayetteville N^o Carolina Sir The Treasurer of the United States has remitted to you to be transmitted to Capt Griffith J. McRea at Wilmington the sum of twelve hundred thirty six dollars and ninety Seven Cents being for the pay of himself and recruits to the 31^st of March 1795 inclusive for which sum please take his receipt to be accountable to this Office for the due application thereof. Carolina Sir Thomas Overton Inspector of the Revenue at Fayetteville will remit you the sum of twelve hundred thirty six dollars and ninety seven Cents being for the pay of yourself from the 1^st of December 1794 and of your recruits from dates of Inlistment to 31^st March 1795 inclusive for which sum your accountable to this Office for the due Application thereof, agreeably to the Inclosed receipt Roll — You will observe that where a man makes his mark it must be witnessed by a commissioned Officer but there is none present, by a[ny] person of respectability — I have received your letter of 25 Ultimo to the late Accountant, and in Answer ther[eto] inform you that it is necessary you would send on the [rolls] of your recruits for the Bounty you have paid them en[closed] to me under cover to the Secretary of War) — If an[y] of the men you have inlisted since 1^st January 179[5] are to remain at Wilmington, in that case I would advise that they be paid the full bounty allowed by Congress in the act passed the 3^d of March last — but if they are to march from thence the sum of four Dollars to be retained from each man so inlisted after the 1^st of January untill he joins the Regiment or Corps in which he is to serve — I have returned your muster roll in order that you will be qualified to it which when done you will transmit to this Office — I am Sir Y^rs — William Simmons D. of War Accountants [Office] May 15^th 1795 Daniel Stevens.
