Letter from the War Office recommending Josiah Fox
Document 1795Josiah Fox is the bearer of this recommendation. William Pennock speaks highly of Fox's performance in the Navy Department at Philadelphia where he assisted Joshua Humphreys, naval constructor, in making draughts and moulds for frigates. Humphreys speaks well of Fox and there are few men equally qualified. Mr John Morgan was destined for the position at Norfolk as naval constructor, but he is in Georgia overseeing the cutting of frigate timber. Recommends Fox for position of temporary assistant constructor.

May 14th, 1795 The bearer is Mr Josia Fox who for a near a year past has been employed in the Navy department in this city, assisting M.r Humphreys the Constructor in making the draughts of moulds for the frigates. He is handsomely spoken of by M.r Humphreys who thinks there are few men in this Country equally qualified at this time. M.r
