Greenville May 17 1795 Sir In conformity to what I conceive to be the ideas of the late a[c]count M[r] Bowers express'd in his letters to me of the 2^d 3^d and 5^th of July and an 8^th of June 1794 relative to Officers relinquishing a part of their pay I have [caused?] to have it taken up by their Attorneys at his Office. I discontinued the stoppage on the pay Roll here on the 1^st of April 1794 of all who had been [recoupled?] excepting Major Hunt — Major Hughes and Cap^t R[undecipherable] — these were brought again into the pay head on the first of April 1794 — But notwithstanding it appears from the Schedules that Cap^t [undecipherable] accounts have been [undecipherable] in a late [undecipherable] Trus[t] attorney's have been paid as follows to Deaton from 1 June to 30 Sep 94 — Ds 183 Batt from 1 June to 31 May 95 10 — 40 Double payment — Drs 220 which I shall endeavor to have refounded. I wish for your opinion whether the 5^th [section?] and the 4^th section of the Militia laws [passed?] the 8^th of March 1795 do or do not afford me a safe [rule?] for adjusting the subsistence accounts of officers — Please to favor me with an answer.
