I have to inform you that an examination of the receipts sent to this Office for the payments made by you to the Garrison at Fort Fayette has taken place, by which I observe there remains in your hands several sums unpaid, which you will please pay to Major Craig, taking his receipts for the same, and transmitting them to this Office for your examination; the charges in the Books of this Office for that purpose, and in future this regulation will be observed in all cases where money remaining in your hands, that each advance made by him to you may be accounted for by the vouchers produced.—
You will in future receive of Major Craig printed receipt rolls for your accommodation in paying your men observing, that each mans name in the pay roll is to be inserted in the receipt roll and if any men remain unpaid you are to note opposite their names the reason, and if paid to Mr Craig — On making out the Muster Rolls you will be accurate in regard to the Remarks, as every men therein leaves a very much at a loss, and when transfers from or your detachment take place the time the Men were transferred who paid to should be mentioned and by whom paid, and all other remarks which may tend to facilitate the settlement of your accounts, are necessary. I have transmitted to Major Craig a list of the balances remaining in your hands to be received by him.
