Sir The accounts of the State of Virginia for claims made by its Executive for the pay, rations and sundry expenditures for the Militia called into ser=vice under the Authority of the President of the United States, as appears by letters from the Secretary of War the 5^t and 21 December 1791. and authorised by the acts of Congress of the 29^th September 1789. and 30^th April 1790 which appears to have been employed at Stations and as Scouts, for the protection of its frontiers are now nearly examined, and in order to enable me to ascer=tain the final balance to the credit of the State up to some certain periord, it will be necessary that I should be informed whether the State have any further demands relative to this service, and how far you are authorised to receive the sum that may be found due as a balance in full payment on the final adjustment of the claims by the State against the United States — Sam Sir &^c — William Simmons
