I am Sir Y[ou]r[s] William Simm[ons] P.S. Your letter of the 23^d Ins[tan]t I have this Instant received covering the receipt of Ensign David Thompson for five hun-dred Dollars— Ensⁿ David Thompson. D. of War Accountan[ts Office] Winchester Virginia April 25^th Sir George Gale E[sq] of Maryland will transmit you the sum of fi[ve hundred] fifteen dollars and eighty six cents being fo[r pay of him-]self, Ensign Yelveton Peyton and the recruits under [your] command, for January, February and March 1795 inclusive— for which sum you are accountable for the disbursement thereof agreeably to the enclosed receipt-roll— I enclose you a pay roll for the above period and amount which is to serve you as a form in future, for it is intended that every Officer is to make out his pay-roll and transmit it to this Office at the expiration of every two Months accompanied with the musters, when an exam-ination will take place and the Amount thereof trans-mitted in the usual manner.
