April 24^th 17[—] New London Sir The Treasurer of the Un[ited] States has remitted to John Chester Esq^r Sup^t [—] [w]ill to be transmitted to you the sum of seven [hun] dred, forty six dollars and thirty four Cents, be[ing] the pay of yourself and Recruits from the 1^st of Nov[ember] 1794 to the 31^st of March 1795 inc[lusive] for which [you] are accountable for the disbursement thereof, agreab[ly] inclosed receipt roll — it is intended that in fu[ture] the Officers must make out their own pay rolls [and] transmit them to this Office with the Muster Ro[ll in] two Months, when they will be examined an[d] money transmitted in the usual way — I there[fore] close you a pay roll for yourself and Recruits a[mount] ing to the above sum which will save you [—]
