" Agreeably to your instructions I yesterday finished proving the ten howitzers which had been cast by Colonel Revere, one of which failed the Colonel was present and said he was fearful of that one before we fired it as it was the first which he cast. He will run the metal over again as soon as possible"
"As you did not write me who to apply to for powder &c I made a request to Colonel Amasa Davis (who was appointed Agent for the fortifications in this harbour last year) and he furnished every thing necessary - they are very well bored - the Cylinders and Chambers are perfectly smooth, The latter when filled holds about seven pounds of powder, and I am satisfied they are sufficiently proved as they generally recoiled from twenty to thirty nine feet"
